John Owens is the face of Charlotte Hurricanes Baseball, a team he has coached for seven years. Owens decided not to sign, out of high school, with the Dodgers organization to pursue a scholarship to Palm Beach Junior College. Owens pitched for Palm Beach as he competed against the Miami Hurricanes and many of the Florida schools. The best program he played was the Miami Hurricanes. This is why we are called the Charlotte Hurricanes today. Owens furthered his career with a scholarship to University of North Carolina at Charlotte as he pitched for the division 1 49ers.
He is President and CEO of Ameritrust; where he started in 1995. Owens has been awarded the Charlotte Chamber Entrepreneur of the Year award, Charlotte business Journal 40 under 40, Inc Magazines, INC 500 for 2 consecutive years, and Carolina Parent top 40 for 3 consecutive years.
Owens serves as a member of the Charlotte Chamber's Board of Directors and as a board member of the UNC Charlotte Athletic Foundation.
